Possible
Reactions after Receiving the BCG Vaccine and
Things to Remember: |
* |
There will be a small erythematous
nodule on the injected area within 7~14 days after
the vaccination. |
* |
If the erythematous nodule grows,
there may be some itchiness and/or pain, within 4~6
weeks. It might turn into papule or an ulcer. Don't
squeeze or cover it up. Keep it clean using gauze
sponges, sterile gauze or cotton balls. |
* |
After 2~3 months, the wounds
will heal naturally. There are times the armpits may
swell. If this results, please consult the doctor. |
* |
Please consult the doctor, if
the swelling in the injected area shows signs of infection. |

Reactions after Receiving the DPT Vaccine and
Things to Remember: |
* |
There will be a red swelling
in the injected area and a slight pain. There may
be a fever within 2 days of the vaccination and the
whole body will feel uncomfortable. Sometimes, there
will be symptoms of lost appetite, vomiting or light
diarrhea. Usually these symptoms will disappear within
2~3 days. |
* |
According to statistics, 1 in
330 children receiving the DPT Vaccine will have a
fever with temperature of more than 40°C. If
this occurs, please consult the doctor. |
* |
In some cases, there may be a
wound in the injected area. If there is a swelling
in the infected area, the hard layer on the skin didn't
disappear or if there is a continuous fever, then
please consult the doctor. |
* |
Please note that 1 in 100 children
may cry continuously for more than 3 hours at a time
and 1 in 900 children may cry with an abnormally high
pitch. |
* |
It is very rare, but in severe
reactions, such as 1 in 10,000 children may have serious
neurological problems and 1 in 310,000 children may
have permanent encephalopathy. So please follow the
doctor's advice, if the pediatrician decides against
administering the vaccine to your child. |
